WHAT WE DO…

The Board and Committee Chairs represent and advocate for the neighborhood’s interests and concerns with multiple entities such as City/County/State Officials, Developers and Housing Planning Committees, Utilities, Florida DOT, the Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations (CCNA) and other organizations which make short and long-term decisions which impact our neighborhood. We work closely with them all to ensure that our residents and businesses have a voice in our own future: our goal is to maintain and improve the character of our safe, friendly, historic, peaceful, beautiful neighborhood, and protect and enhance the value of our investments.

    WHAT WE ARE DOING…

Street Lighting:

Board members conducted several nighttime “ride-arounds” with the majority of City Commissioners and the City Manager to show them first-hand the need for improved street lighting on our streets. The Board is preparing a total package of costs to present to the Commissioners including capital expenses and maintenance of new decorative street lighting, and is hoping to implement the new street lighting project in fiscal year 25-26.

Street Paving:

City of Sarasota selected Clematis and Wisteria Streets for street paving and new curbing which has been delayed from October 2024 to 1st Quarter 2025 due to storm debris. SPPNA will continue efforts to have all our neighborhood streets paved over time.

Traffic:

SPPNA is working with the City of Sarasota on speed reduction efforts on our neighborhood streets.

Utility Poles:

Working on removal of existing residual backyard wooden poles on the streets on which power lines were buried under the FPL Storm Safe project.

Neighborhood Social Events:

Planning is in full swing for a Centennial Celebration and Historic Home Tour of SPP homes built in 1925-26, scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025 from 11am-3pm.

Governance:

Working on updating and refining SPPNA By-Laws, including Membership Requirements and Benefits – to be released in 2025 after Board approval.

Street Captains:

Searching for Street Captains on Boyce, Magnolia, Jasmine Streets and Tulip Drive in order to have complete representation of residents on those streets.

Social Media:

Building an SPPNA website and updating social media sites to provide residents with instant information pertinent to the neighborhood.
